Downstream Biomanufacturing Associate, Charles River Labs (contractor through HonorVet Technologies) 19 Aug 2025 — 19 Jan 2026
Downstream gene therapy manufacturing in accordance with CRL's SOPs, performed to cGMP standards and documented using cGDP to ensure integrity and audit readiness. Techniques frequently used include cell lysis and clarification, tangential flow filtration, affinity and ion-exchange column chromatography, and ultracentrifugation as well as buffer preparation for both upstream and downstream processes. These techniques are performed in a clean room, with some steps performed in a BSC, utilizing proper aseptic and gowning procedures to maintain a sterile environment. I cleaned in materials and used 5S principles to clean and maintain an orderly lab space. I also have experience with hazardous waste disposal. In addition to my manufacturing responsibilities, I had QA document control duties while at Charles River Laboratories inventorying and archiving binders of various QC analytical experiments. In both GMP manufacturing and in QA I have used GDP to always ensure audit readiness. I used excel to keep track of the documents that I was archiving, which were on the order of thousands.
Undergraduate Research
Followed SOPs and conducted experiments to elucidate the electrochemical properties of enzymes found in deep sea organisms. This entailed the production of iron-sulfur cluster proteins via recombinant bacteria and purification using various chromatographic techniques, including FPLC, in an anaerobic environment. Then, performing various assays (e.g. Bradford, ferrozine, NO), electrochemical experiments (e.g. with cyclic voltammetry), and characterization techniques (e.g. with EPR, ICP-MS) to elucidate the proteins’ kinetic and structural properties. Because the process of purification for some of the proteins had not previously been well-described in literature I screened and tested different methods of column chromatography for their purification to aid in the development of SOPs. I used excel extensively to analyze and report the data collected from these experiments. I made figures, tables, and set up excel sheets to perform calculations, then wrote these findings up in word.
Independent (and ongoing) research
I have been studying methods of measuring and identifying the underlying causes of, and reducing uncertainty in ML modeling of BBBP using GNN, tree-based, and ensemble models via various bespoke statistical and computational techniques. I hope to publish within the next year so I won't go into too much detail here at this time.
